Better than the original

I have started a new, relatively simple illustration.  I work a lot from photos and one of the things I like about pen and ink is that I can creatively enhance the original image in many different ways.  In this particular case we had a relatively poor photo of a black lab pup. 

However, in this first stage of the illustration the image already looks more interesting, at least to me.  I was also able to correct the missing portion of her foot.  Moving forward I have continuing opportunity to enhance the drawing.
